Be a hero with your money
ABN AMRO feels it’s really important that children learn how to handle their money early on. In our era of expensive phones, games and gadgets, this has become more pressing than ever. And as a financial services provider we have plenty of knowledge and experience to help schools in this process.
That’s why we’ve teamed up with the National Institute for Family Finance Information (Nibud) to develop an informative lesson package known as Word een held met je geld (‘Be a hero with your money’). ABN AMRO volunteers give guest lessons to 10- and 11-year-olds in groups 7 and 8, the aim being to prevent children from getting into debt at an early age. After all, what we learn when we’re young stays with us for life.

“I’ve volunteered for this project several times by giving guest lessons at primary schools. It’s a lot of fun to teach children how to handle money through play. We’re always so busy performing, in both our working and our private lives. An initiative such as this pulls you up short, as you suddenly realise there’s so much more. It feels great to do something good for someone and to make them happy with so little effort. We receive so much gratitude from the children, their teachers, schools and other volunteers.”
